Since our founding in 1899, Suntory has been dedicated to realizing our mission of creating harmony with people and nature. This means promoting a sustainable society where enriching people's lives and conserving the natural environment go hand in hand. To further this mission, in 2003, we developed Suntory's Mizuiku Education Program for Nature and Water to teach the next generation about the importance of water and nature. Through this program, students are encouraged to think about what they can do to ensure water is preserved for the future.
In 2019, we collaborated with Suntory Garuda Beverage (SGB) and other local partners to launch the Mizuiku I Love Clean Water initiative in Indonesia. The Indonesian version of the program provides basic knowledge about water, addresses water pollution and how to eliminate it, and explores water preservation efforts that children can contribute to as individuals. Through this, we aim to raise awareness about water conservation and improve access to clean water for thousands of children in Indonesia.
This year, in honor of Earth Day and National Education Day, SGB signed a new partnership agreement with The Ministry of Environment & Forestry (KLHK) of the Republic of Indonesia. This three-year partnership focuses on teaching the next generation about water conservation in schools, organizations, and surrounding communities.
"This partnership agreement with KLHK set a milestone for the Mizuiku program in Indonesia, and it's essential to create a young generation who care about water conservation and the environment," said Ong Yuh Hwang, Chief Executive Officer & President Director at SGB.
Additionally, SGB hosted a series of activities leading up to the announcement of this new partnership:
